In a major speech, the Taliban’s supreme leader, Hibatullah, announced the continuation of public stoning and flogging of women, defending these practices as consistent with their interpretation of Islamic law. He stated firmly that the Taliban would not yield to Western pressure to abandon such practice.

In an effort to further suppress and intimidate, the Taliban closed several educational centers that provided schooling to girls over the age of 10 in Kabul.
